While it’s certainly been a long time coming, if you ask me, this massive two-part interview with OCS/Coachwhips’ frontman John Dwyer is more than worth the wait. Since this interview was conducted back in May of this year, Coachwhips have shaken their last moneymaker at a final, sweat-drenched NYC show, and Dwyer is already enmeshed in a fledgling project called Yikes. ARTNOISE feature stands as an important historic record of JPD doing what he does best: runnin’ his damn mouth off.

During the summer of 2004, I was able to meet up with two members of the group Black Ox Orkestar before their incredible set at Philadelphia’s Vox Populi. While this band is certainly one of the lesser-known acts on the Constellation Records roster, their debut recording
Ver Tanzt? represents one of the most profound marriages of politics and music-making that I’ve ever encountered. True to form, this interview ranges from the aesthetics of punk rock to the Israel-Palestine conflict to questions of Jewish identity.

Originally printed in the webzine Deep Fry Bonanza (RIP), this interview made a lasting impression on me, informing a lot of my own efforts to reassert the political into the independent music scene.
